After four long years, the annual Garden Fest made a huge return to the Bakersfield College campus on Saturday April 15th. The event was well attended by community members of all ages, and with so many local businesses and organizations present, there was something for everyone to enjoy.

BC's Horticulture department hosted this year's Garden Fest, with a central goal of encouraging health and wellness in our community. Over 150 vendors participated, offering everything from gardening tips and products, to cooking tools, outdoor leisure, crafts, home decor, and fresh fruits and veggies from BC's own Ag department. BC's new Edible Education Garden was on full display for the community to see, and community members were encouraged to ask panels of ag and horticulture experts all their questions about gardening.

Bakersfield College programs took advantage of the large turnout to showcase their training and educate the community on all BC has to offer. The Culinary department prepared and sold meals to customers and hosted a cooking demonstration, while the Agriculture department sold plants and provided guided ag-themed crafts and games for kids. Jesus Rojas, the president of the Agriculture club, expressed his love for the event, he says, “I like to spread awareness because it is something that is very important and our goal is to promote our club which helps students build professional skills.”

Bakersfield College was thrilled to have everyone back on campus and is looking forward to hosting this beloved community event for years to come.
