The Bakersfield College Wylie and May Louise Jones Art Gallery is currently hosting the Panorama Invitational 2024. This unique event has taken place annually for more than twenty years, highlighting diverse artwork from local high school students. This year, there are more than sixty art pieces on display, ranging from a variety of different mediums including 2-dimensional, 3-dimensional, and multimedia.

The Panorama Invitational 2024 exhibit is open from February 5th until March 7th, and provides an amazing opportunity for the selected students (chosen by their high school instructors) to display their creations in a gallery setting whilst also experiencing being a part of a gallery event. One of the main purposes of the event is to encourage and motivate young artists by validating their artistic skills and demonstrating the professional side of the artistic world.

Upon entering the Wylie and May Louise Jones Art Gallery, you are greeted with a maze-like layout of white walls. The blank spaces upholding each piece seem purposefully simplistic: relinquishing a busy tone with negative space to capture each viewer’s attention on every piece displayed.

The calm, peaceful atmosphere of the gallery provided the perfect environment for dedicating time to enjoying and absorbing each artwork displayed. Each piece of art harbors a different meaning, invoking the viewer to ponder this thought as they tour the gallery.

The diversity and range of the art was most memorable. There were a variety of pieces that were full of color, while several pieces on display were carefully drawn in grayscale. It is evident that there are many talented art students across Kern County, and this annual exhibit is a great way to commemorate those artists and their respective creations.

The Panorama Invitational Exhibit will be open until March 7th. The hours are Monday and Wednesday, 9:30-11:00AM; and Tuesday and Thursday, 2:00-5:00PM. Please visit the BC Online Events Calendar for more details.
