Bakersfield College was host to hundreds of accomplished young musicians from across Kern County recently, as our campus presented the 2024 CMEA Solo/Ensemble Festival on Saturday, April 20. The annual event offers the opportunity for students, high school age and below, to perform solo or small ensemble work, listen to and learn from the music of their peers, and receive clinic-style feedback and written evaluation from highly experienced and well-respected adjudicators. The Performing Arts Center and Fine Arts buildings were positively buzzing with excitement as musicians, family, friends, and the community flocked to BC to support these talented artists.

Organized and hosted by Amanda Sproul (Director of Instrumental Music at Stockdale High) and Scott Dirkse (Director of Instrumental Studies at BC), the full-day event was capped off by a stunning Command Performance Recital in the Edward Simonsen Performing Arts Center, featuring 17 exceptional student musicians from across our region. We are immensely grateful for our partnership with the Kern County Music Educators Association (KCMEA) and for our broader campus community for the support of the future of music at BC!
